Erwina Ziomkowska – “Waiting for Odysseus” 2013

Erwina Ziomkowska : “The work refers to the specifics of the Silesian family in which men worked at the mine and the women looked out for their return. Industrial character of Silesia and the lack of certainty whether something bad had happened was a life determining element. Daily looking out for and listening for were kinds of a ritual. The sound of sirens meant the confirmation of fears. It’s a work in which the fear of realization of anxieties provokes drama to come, and association of fluttering curtains with internal anxiety triggers a particular set of emotions and irrational misgivings. ” I wanted to depict the tension between the expectation and the absence where apparent tranquility was the announcement of repressed thoughts. Total tension is a form of refined cruelty. Here, behind the veil of uncertainty there lurks helplessness mixed with hope. ” Work takes part in the exhibition ” Spaces as a tool … ” in the Castle Sielecki in Sosnowiec. The opening will take place on October 18, everybody is welcome. ”
